Requirements For Chartered Engineer NZ

 

A Chartered Professional Engineer is an engineer who has been registered via Engineering New Zealand (the non-profit organization with the registration authority). To attain this status, you have to complete an assessment to demonstrate that you can handle complicated engineering issues requiring advanced and expert knowledge as in the Chartered Member class.

The difference lies in the fact that CPEng NZ has to show the country-specific technical experience and be evaluated again at least every 6 years. Using the CPEng assessment, you can show that you fulfill international criteria, which allows you to travel overseas to work.

Both registration and membership are two different things. Using the same assessment, you can become both a Chartered Professional Engineer and a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand.

Engineering New Zealand membership allows you to show your credibility and professionalism. It means you are a part of a huge professional community advancing technical knowledge and maintaining standards.

Eligibility criteria to become a Chartered engineer NZ:

 

To attain the chartered status in New Zealand, you have to fulfil the following requirements:

1.    You are required to possess a Washing Accord-accredited qualification (Bachelor of Engineering, Honours) or you have to show an equal level of knowledge.

2.    You have to go through an assessment to show you satisfy the competency criteria.

3.    You must be committed to strictly following the CPEng Code of Ethical Conduct.

4.    You have to be evaluated again and again at least every 6 years for the maintenance of your CPEng registration.

Point to be noted: you are not required to be a member of engineering New Zealand to apply for the Chartered status.
