Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is the licensing authority that licenses eligible engineers who prove their competency as per the PEO satisfaction level.

Licensure requirements for Professional Engineers Ontario:

 

1.    your minimum age must be 18

2.    your character must be good

3.    academic requirements:

To meet Professional Engineers Ontario or PEO’s academic need to achieve the professional engineer license, the engineering applicant has to possess a bachelor’s degree from an engineering program recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) or equivalent academic qualifications.

In the case when the applicant’s engineering programs are not CEAB-recognized, PEO will evaluate the academic background to decide whether it is equal to the academic qualification in the engineering discipline.

You also need to know that there are currently zero graduate degree engineering programs that are recognized by the CEAB.

4.    Pass the National Professional Practice Exam:

The NPPE: National Professional Practice Exam is a three-hour, closed-book, professional practice, on-one exam on ethics, professional liability, and engineering law. A capable applicant may write the NPPE at any time (within the time frame given by Professional Engineers Ontario), as they acquire 48 months of working experience as an engineer required for a license. To lessen the time to achieve the engineering license, the applicant is told to choose the NPPE pathway and write the NPPE early in the PEO time limit.

The NPPE is conducted 5 times a year in the following months: April, February, June, September, and November). The exam is organized via remote proctoring, meaning the applicant will write the exam from their homes. Special accommodations can be made for the applicant having a demonstrated need. 5.    fulfill the work experience requirements:

According to Ontario law, you need four years of work experience as an engineer to attain a professional engineering license. A minimum of one year of experience must be gained in a Canadian jurisdiction. It makes sure that you have enough exposure to Canadian engineering codes, technical criteria, legislation, and regulations.

Professional Engineers Ontario or PEO assesses all applicants’ engineering experience against the quality standards given below:

·      Engineering management

·      Practical experience

·      Communication skills

·      Awareness of the social effects of engineering

For the engineering license, you need to show at least 48 months of experience that can be verified and accepted. The experience you gained when you completed your undergraduate engineering degree.
