What is
APEGS Competency, and what are its elements?
Competency means the capability of doing tasks and performing roles
as per the standards recognized and expected by an employer and the community.
The common competencies regarding the working experience in an engineering
atmosphere are Competency Framework that is important to make sure that the
practice and public safety in all disciplines by a professional engineer. Competency
is the measure of capability for demonstrating its examples are necessary from
the real work experience. The competency of a candidate for the professional
engineering license must be evaluated not only the performance in the
situations that they have faced to date but their capability of dealing with
those circumstances that may come up in the future. As a result, an aspiring
candidate has to show the ability to use their engineering knowledge with
safety and confidence across different situations in a competency-based
assessment system along with identifying professional limits and be ready to
either improve their specialty or call other sources for help.
As APEGS’s
evaluators with a confusion-free idea of a candidate’s experience and knowledge
in the areas necessary for influential and safe engineering practice, detailed
examples must be given as part of a Competency Self-Assessment.

To make sure public safety and influential practice, the seven
categories are the important areas for every discipline of professional
engineers to show competency. Each Competency Category has a list of key
competencies. To fulfill the competency needs, the average competence level
must be fulfilled by each candidate in each Competency Category.
How you
can submit experience in the online CBA system:
To submit your experience in the online CBA system, you have to do
the following:
1. Start by
going through the online Engineering Competency Assessment System at
https:/competencyassessment.ca.
2. click on
the ‘Applicants’ section
3. You must
read the instructions shown on the screen and follow them.
4. When not
having an account in the online CBA system, create your own. Your registration
ID is your five-digit APEGS
User ID (registration number or candidate file number). Pick ‘Association of
Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction.
5. Manual
approvals of accounts are done for five days; Monday to Friday, except for
statutory holidays. After finding your account approved, you will get an email
notification.
6. After
the account approval, you will reach the system by choosing ‘I am a registered
user and would like to access the Engineering Competency Assessment System’.
7.
Adhere to the instruction shown on the screen
and put in the information. You must keep in mind that your education
information will be shown on the online CBA system yet, which will be in the
future.
