CPEng NZ Eligibility Criteria And Assessment

 

To become a Chartered Professional Engineer in New Zealand (CPEng NZ), you have some experience and get yourself registered using Engineering New Zealand, which is the registration authority.

Like the Chartered Member class, you must complete an evaluation to prove that you can solve complicated engineering issues requiring expert knowledge.

The thing that differentiates is a CPEng has to show New Zealand specific technical experience and be re-evaluated a minimum of every 6 years. The Chartered Professional Engineer assessment shows that you fulfill an international standard, which means traveling abroad to work is not an issue.

You should also know that registration and membership are two different things. You can become a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand and Chartered Professional engineer using the same assessment.

Chartered professional engineer (CPEng NZ) eligibility criteria:

To become a Chartered Engineer NZ, you have to fulfill the following requirements:

1.    You need to possess a Washington Accord-accredited qualification, which is Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or show equal knowledge.

2.    You have to complete an evaluation to show that you satisfy the competency standards.

3.    You must be committed to the CPEng Code of Ethical Conduct.

4.    You have to be re-evaluated at least every 6 years for the maintenance of your CPEng NZ registration.

To apply, it’s mandatory that you have to be a member of Engineering New Zealand.

Evaluation:

Keep in mind that before you go to formally submit your application, you will be told to submit your draft application for a member of the assessment team to check. This step is very important, as it gives you feedback on ways you might improve your application, which will increase the chances of your being successful.

On the submission of your online application, a panel will:

1.    Evaluate your application taking international competency standards into account

2.    Fix a meeting with you

3.    Potentially ask you for further information

4.    Receive feedback from the referees

5.    Write a report to recommend the Chartered Professional Engineers Council also known as CPEC.
