IOM3 Membership (Member of Institute of the Materials, Minerals, and Mining) MIMMM
The professional member grade (MIMMM) or IOM3 membership is the recognition of a professional’s knowledge, experience, and
understanding in an IOM3-related technical discipline.
The professional member is supposed to use
independent technical judgment in both practical experience and the use of
engineering or scientific or environmental principles. The member must be
creative in technical matters that are relevant to materials and natural
resources in one or more than one in the following:

extraction
2.
exploration
3.
forming
4.
processing
5.
application
6.
selection
7.
research
8.
development
9.
reuse
10.
manufacturing
11.
recycling
12.
repurposing
IOM3 membership requirements:
To fulfill the requirements of MIMMM membership, a
candidate has to:
1.
have the minimum of a graduation
degree, whether it is a BEng, BSc, BSc (Eng), BTech and the like or equivalent
RFQ level 6/SCQF Level 9/10 qualification in a related engineering,
environmental, science or technology subject.
2.
Possess a minimum of 4 years of
relevant work experience. It can also include the time you spent in the
completion of your Ph.D.
If you don’t have sufficient experience or the
minimum qualification to apply for the membership, you will be able to apply
for the membership grade of Associate Member (AIMMM).
The candidates applying for professional membership
or IOM3 membership can also apply for the registration as Chartered Engineer (CEng),
Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)
simultaneously. The requirements IOM3 Chartership of the applicant is dependent on their educational background and work
experience.
MIMMM applicants can be used by physicists,
engineers, scientists, chemists, geologists and technologists covering those
from packaging the wood, academic, industrial and similar sectors.
The candidate must in possession of the required skills
and potential to fulfill the underlying technical principles. They must have
the capability of portraying supreme management skills, discernment and
decision making.
An applicant desiring for CEng has to show their
management and leadership skills for professional engineering and experience.
They must have a deep understanding of engineering that can promote their IOM3
discipline.
Furthermore, it’s a must for them to show the
knowledge in practical situations like design, manufacture, testing, safety and
maintenance of components, devices and structure or the process plant
control.
A candidate dreaming of CSci MIMMM has to show
their skills and specialty in the aspect of professional engineering. They must
have scientific knowledge and a deep understanding that allow them to start and
handle scientific projects and procedures, relevant to one or more facets of
materials of natural resources. They also need to show commendable knowledge to
use their expertise in the administrative structure.
A candidate with a keen desire for CEnv MIMMM needs
to demonstrate the eligibility to showcase the application of environmental and
imperishable development principles, which would fulfill the requirements of
IOM3. They also need to show the way the leadership role is done in
imperishable management through strategic environmental planning for the
development process, project and the lifecycle of the project. They are also
required to play a lead role in propagating the idea of the environment and put
those ideas transparently before their colleagues and some other more
audience.
To attain IOM3 membership, there are 4 stages with or without registration:
The base of education: A recognized and authorized qualification of level 7 like a degree in
Masters or any alternate qualification like Bachelor’s degree topped with MSc
or Ph.D. or any training scheme of a company with authority, which requires
assessment. The candidate not meeting the criteria can also apply via the
Technical Report Route (TRR) and take consultation from the TRR guide.
Early-stage Professional Development: At the beginning and
developmental year of the job structured development is shown, also including
earning experience in responsibilities. It can be using an IPD plan or via general
work experience.
Professional review: submitting evidence and evaluation of the same via associate review
process to find whether the contender has achieved both professional competency
and a commitment to professional codes.
Sustainable professional development: An obligation for the maintenance of competency to practice.
